The chaos of the Copenhagen airport exists in stark contrast to the intimate moments shared by friends, family and lovers reunited. This series of photos entitled Arrivals is a celebration of the human emotions that occur in the airport arrivals section. I was inspired by this project when my Mother’s flight to Copenhagen was significantly delayed. I had nothing to do but wait so I put my phone away and watched the drama unfold. Amid a sea of waving Danish flags, I witnessed grandparents holding their newborn grandbaby for the first time, lovers clinging to each other in joyful embrace, and parents reuniting with children. I appreciated the contrast between the impersonal utilitarian space of the airport and the strong emotions I was witnessing as well as  the universality of the feelings we have when we are reunited with a loved one after time away.  This felt especially important after the years of isolation that Covid has imposed.  Before I knew it, I was experiencing my own joyful reunion with my mother.  I hope my photos captured the emotions of what it means to arrive in the arms of our loved ones, wherever home may be.
